Dear Friends, Neighbors and Colleagues,
I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Select Board in the upcoming May Town Election.
I’m running because, like many of you, I’m invested in this community and care about Brookline’s future. As a pragmatic, creative thinker who approaches people and problems with an open mind, I have a strong desire to address divisions in our community and bring people together to find common ground.
For over 20 years, I have lived and worked in Brookline Village, experiencing our community from both perspectives of resident and business owner. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the interplay between community needs, development, and transportation.
I've served as a Town Meeting Member and on committees for multiple projects involving residential and commercial development and transportation. I currently serve on the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee to develop a community-supported vision and plan for Brookline.
My work with organizations such as the Brookline Community Foundation, Brookline Housing Authority, Arts Brookline, and the Brookline Public Libraries Read to a Dog program has connected me to the vibrant fabric of our town. I’m driven by a passion for community-building.
As a small business owner in Brookline, I bring a unique perspective to the Select Board – helping the Board understand the impacts its decisions have on local businesses, patrons and neighbors.
My priorities include:
-
Housing: As part of the comprehensive planning process, address a range of community-supported housing, including options for older adults, families, and young professionals, with a focus on long-term affordability.
-
Climate & Sustainability: Enable electrification across municipal, commercial, and residential sectors; protect natural resources by expanding the tree canopy and green spaces; and upgrade our infrastructure to withstand extreme weather.
-
Transportation & Mobility: Support a network of protected bike lanes along with pedestrian and senior-friendly pathways; advocate for traffic calming measures and parking policies that serve all members of our community.
-
Financial Accountability: Balance fiscal priorities to address needs of the municipality for vital public services and schools for high-quality education; and support commercial development to reduce the tax burden on renters, homeowners and those wanting to age in place.
My campaign is about listening, observing and collaborating. I want to hear your thoughts, concerns, and hopes for Brookline’s future. Please feel free to reach out to me at liz@lizlinder4brookline.org
I look forward to earning your support and your vote.
With appreciation,
Liz Linder
